MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS

Even a 5-10% sustained weight loss can improve your health and significantly reduce key risk factors. Your supervised medical weight loss program will include:
• Medical history & physical exam
• Height, weight, blood pressure
• BMI
• Fat %

Weight management medications:  Are meant to help people who have health problems related to obesity. Health care professionals use BMI to help decide whether you might benefit from weight management medications. Your health care professional may prescribe a medication to treat your overweight or obesity if you are an adult with

  • a BMI of 30 or greater
  • a BMI of 27 or greater, and you have weight-related health problems such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes

Weight management medications aren’t for everyone with a high BMI. If you are overweight or have obesity, you might be able to lose weight with a lifestyle program that changes your behaviors and improves your eating and physical activity habits. A lifestyle program may also address other things that cause you to gain weight, such as eating triggers and not getting enough sleep.

NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING

Nutritional counseling is a type of assessment made which analyzes various health needs in regard to diet and exercise. During this assessment it  provides information based on a person's current status, helping to improve overall health. The aim of good nutrition is to improve your overall health and wellness. With the help of a nutrition assessment , you can use nutrition to increase energy, improve sleep quality, strengthen your immune , boost mood, increase concentration, and reduce symptoms of disease.

Our goal at Slim City Weight Loss is to implement short and long-term strategies to assist the patient with a healthy modification of their current dietary regiment.

  • There are several food behavior modifications that will need to be implemented. o Most importantly, NO MORE SKIPPING MEALS. Our patients will need to consume three small meals and three high protein snacks daily. All their meals should be around the same size. The patient should eat their first meal within 30-40 minutes of waking. High protein is always the focus. They should eat a meal or snack every 3-4 hours. This will help keep their metabolism running throughout the day rather than stop-and-go. Patients should not eat fruit after 3 p.m. Fruit is very healthy; however, it is packed with sugar therefore, it can sabotage any weight loss program quickly. Always eat fruit with some source of protein. Like 2% string cheese, almonds, or yogurt. On your weight loss journey should not eat anything fried. Stick with chicken, fish, and turkey. Limit the red meat, hamburger meat, pork, and salmon to no more than once a week. Before bedtime, to cut the midnight snacking, eat a snack that is all protein. This will keep the metabolism running all through the night.
  • We do offer different protein snacks and drinks that the patient is welcome to sample, and these products are available for purchase during any office hour.
  • Meals should consist of high protein, high fiber, low carbohydrates, and low sugar dietary regiment. In addition to adding and modifying dieting as previously mentioned, it will be important to add a multivitamin with calcium daily to their diet. This will help supplement dietary needs. As your calorie intake decreases, the body will need the extra vitamins to ensure proper calcium levels preventing their body from pulling calcium from their hair, teeth, or nails.

Another important factor to making this plan for work for the patient is an increase in their water intake. The patient will need to consume 80-120 ounces of water each day. While our program does not require the patient to join a gym, we do encourage that they exercise regularly. We recommend cardio workouts at least 3 days a week. Walking is a great cardio workout.  You should start slow and work up to more intense workouts. A 'rule of thumb' to follow is to make sure to elevate your heart rate at least 20 to 30 minutes daily.

LABS

The labs that are required to take the medication is as follows : CMP; LIPID PANEL; TSH

CMP TESTING CONSIST OF:

  • Glucose is a type of sugar that provides energy for the brain and body. This is also known as blood sugar and may be elevated with metabolic problems like diabetes.
  • Calcium is a critical mineral that enables bone health as well as the functioning of muscles and the cardiovascular and nervous systems. The main sources of calcium are dietary, but calcium levels in the blood do not normally fluctuate based on diet. Instead, calcium in the blood is usually drawn from calcium stored in the bones.
  • Sodium is a type of compound known as an electrolyte. Electrolytes are minerals that promote healthy fluid levels and acid-base balance in the body. They also facilitate proper muscle and nerve function. Most sodium comes from your diet, and the kidneys help regulate your body’s sodium levels.
  • Potassium is an electrolyte that is present in all tissues of the body and comes from the foods you eat.
  • Bicarbonate is an electrolyte that reflects the level of carbon dioxide (CO2) in your blood.
  • Chloride is another electrolyte that functions along with sodium, potassium, and bicarbonate to enable a wide range of processes in the body.
  • Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) is a measurement of urea nitrogen, a waste material that the kidneys help eliminate from the blood.
  • Creatinine is a byproduct of normal muscle activity. It is a waste product that is normally filtered and removed from the blood by the kidneys.
  • Albumin is a protein produced in the liver that transports important substances through the body and also keeps fluid from leaking out of blood vessels.
  • Total protein is a measurement of the sum of albumin and globulins, which are proteins related to blood vessel and immune function.
  • Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an enzyme that is found in tissues throughout the body. It supports numerous biological processes and is most concentrated in the liver and bones.
  • Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is an enzyme that is primarily found in the liver.
  • Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) is an enzyme present in the liver and other tissues of the body.
  • Bilirubin is a waste product that is yellowish in color and is produced from the breakdown of red blood cells. The liver plays a central role in eliminating bilirubin from the body.

LIPID PANEL TESTING CONSIST OF:

  • Total cholesterol
  • LDL (low-density lipoprotein), the "bad cholesterol"
  • HDL (high-density lipoprotein), the "good cholesterol"
  • Triglycerides, the most common type of fat in your body

TSH TESTING CONSIST OF:

The TSH test measures thyroid-stimulating hormone, which is a hormone that prompts the thyroid to produce other hormones. The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in your neck that makes the hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). T3 and T4 control your metabolism, or how your body uses and stores energy.
